New month, new (blue) moon, new theme!

Gratitude and Attitude

While the holiday season could look a little different this year (I know some of my favorite events are already cancelled), now more than ever it’s time to focus on our outlook towards life.

There is so much talk about gratitude and gratitude practices and activities. This is because it lives up to the hype!

The science and research on gratitude shows that people who regularly practice gratitude experience more positive emotions and life satisfaction, increased resilience, and stronger social relationships. A gratitude practice can also come with some health benefits of improved sleep, lower blood pressure, and a healthier immune system.

Ok, but how can just thinking about what you appreciate do all of this?

Research shows that when we think about what we appreciate, the calming part of the nervous system (parasympathetic system) is triggered as well as various parts of the brain and chemicals in the brain responsible for sleep and emotions.

So how can you incorporate a gratitude practice into your daily life?

  • Create a routine in the morning or evening where you think about things you are thankful for

  • Start a gratitude journal with a list. Read the list and add to it each day

  • Visual person? Create a journal/album of pictures of things you are grateful for

  • Practice gratitude in the moment when find yourself thinking negative thoughts

Still feel like you need some support creating a consistent gratitude practice? Reach out to me for a complimentary 30 minute coaching session!

Sending you lots of love,

Michele
