Finding your purpose

I was never the person that knew what I wanted to be when I grew up.

As a child, I went from wanting to be a Dog Groomer to a Veterinarian to a Ballet Dancer to Fashion Merchandising. In college, I majored in Marketing/Fashion Merchandising for a year before switching to Criminology Pre-Law. I took the LSAT, but decided not to apply to law school. I might have watched Legally Blonde a few too many times. Less than 2 years later, I ended up in grad school. I was always in awe (and quite honestly - jealous) of my friends that knew what they wanted to do.

In college, I fell in love with lifting weights. Immediately after college, I set out to learn everything possible about nutrition and fitness, tracked my macros in a teeny notebook that fit in my purse, and saved workouts and recipes from magazines. (Smart phones weren’t a thing yet!). The same thing with personal development work. I couldn’t get enough books, podcasts, and events.

I found myself talking about fitness, nutrition, and personal development all the time and how they all relate. Friends started coming to me for workouts, nutrition advice, accountability, and personal development tools.

One day the lightbulb went on, and I realized that I didn’t want to spend another day without pursing my passion for wellness as a career.

So, how do you go about finding your purpose?

  • Pay attention to EVERYTHING that lights you up, is fun, or makes you happy. *Keep a list*

  • Ask people close to you about your strengths and when they think you seem happiest

  • Spend time exploring your interests and hobbies more deeply

  • Think about what makes you forget to eat (I’m serious!)

  • Think about the activities you loved as a child
