The one question you need to ask yourself about your relationship with exercise
I know what you’re thinking…working out and soul searching do not seem to go together at all. Ohhhh but they do!
Let me ask you – WHY do you workout?
If your answer is anything other than - it makes me feel happy, alive, and amazing from the inside out, we need to talk.
Workout, exercise, and gym have become four letter words. As kids, exercise was disguised as play time or recess. I know I wasn’t thinking about riding my bike around the neighborhood or playing tag as something I had to do. It was fun!
If your answer was “oh hell no I don’t workout” or you were trying to remember the last time you did workout – why is that? I am guessing you don’t enjoy it or you don’t have time?
First, let’s think about working out as simply moving your body. Close your eyes for minute and visualize for me –
How can you move your body in a way that would be fun for you?
Are you indoors or outdoors?
Alone or with a group of people?
Are you dancing, jumping, walking?
If you are having a hard time visualizing, do a search of the studios and gyms in your area. What types of classes or 1x1 do they offer? Is the first session or first week free? Does your city have a Class Pass or Sweat Net where you can pay a monthly fee and try out various places and classes?
You might surprise yourself! For 15 years, I created my own weightlifting and cardio programs and worked out without a training partner. As life got more hectic, I had less and less time to spend in the gym. Joining a local yoga studio really opened my eyes that a studio can be full of awesome people and have a strong sense of community. Now, I only take group classes! Not only do you want to go to the class just because you enjoy it, but you also want to hang with those kick ass people! Before you know it, gym friends become real friends and working out becomes happy and healthy for your body, mind, and soul.
Let me know what new, fun ways of moving your body you are trying out this month!
