Releasing Negativity for a Fresh Start
I think we are all ready for a reset, a fresh start.
To get this fresh start, we need more than a Monday, a new month, or a new year. We really need to take a step back and understand WHY we are craving this fresh start and the things that are holding us back.
So, how do you get to this “why?” Trust me, you HAVE the answers. Some of them may be at the top of your mind and thoughts, but you may have to dig a little deeper for others.
It helps to try a couple of different things, especially when you are feeling stuck.
Start off with grabbing some paper or a journal and writing out your answers to the questions below.
Not getting as far as you’d like? Start talking through your answers out loud, either to a supportive person in your life or use the speech to text option on your phone or computer.
Questions
What (or who) am I holding onto that I really need to let go of?
What is keeping me from being happy? Or – what is making me unhappy?
What is holding me back from accomplishing my goals?
You have some answers…now what?
Write a letter to the things or people that you need to let go of and then burn it. This is one of my favorites. It REALLY helps to release emotions that we are holding inside and give closure to situations.
Allow yourself to really feel your emotions. Sit in them.
Be a problem solver. Write out a plan to address your goals or the things you want to change
Write out affirmations or things you need to remind yourself and hang them where you will see them
Truly forgive.
Look for the lessons in situations
Cut, reduce, or take a break from contact/communication with people that are not adding to your life
